    That's an interesting question.
Authoritarian governance doesn't allow for questioning. Whatever it is that crosses their minds probably will never be known.
In 2017 the Guardian did a piece, "Unequal Russia: is anger stirring in the global capital of inequality?". There's more written now about the war & it seems the opinion of the population on that subject is shaped by VP (they're going along to get along).
It's of note "Russia ranks among the world’s most corrupt countries in international ratings, with corruption-related crimes costing an estimated $2.5 billion in damages between 2014 and 2017."

    Statistics say :
    In 2018
"45% of respondents blamed Putin for failing to ensure an equitable distribution of income, a significant increase from 39% in a 2015 survey."

    Published in 2020:
"A 2018 study noted that around 50% of Russians considered the private property distribution system in Russia unfair, with another 41.6% partially agreeing. A staggering 87.2% of Russians felt they received significantly less than they deserved."

"This paper focuses on the objective situation regarding inequalities and their subjective perception by the population in Russia in recent years. It is shown that socio-economic inequalities are currently perceived by the population as excessive and illegitimate, and the gap between expectations and social reality has led to growing requests for “leveling” being made to the state." ...
